Following the introduction of the helmet in 1884 was the issue of a new tunic for all ranks. This was to be worn on normal duties, usually mounted, with boots, breeches and the spiked helmet. It was all blue, including collar and cuffs, with white tape or lace around the collar, the shoulder straps and the top of the pointed cuffs. The front edge of the hem was piped with white, and the seams on the back and sleeves were also piped white, lancer fashion. The nine brass buttons are small and closely spaced.
