The Yeomanry

Officer’s Jacket, North Hants Yeomanry c1850

The uniform had become less flamboyant by the mid-19th century so that the hussar jacket, or dolman, was more in line with the regular British hussars. It is all blue, with silver lace and braid. These poor quality photos are from P W Reynolds’ notebook. He says that the specimen is similar to a pattern dated 1848, in a tailor’s book at the RUSI. The detail on the collar is indistinct but it is blue, almost filled with lace and braid.
