Jacob the Goose

Jacob the goose from Canada parades with a gorget round his neck. His head is still preserved in the Guards Museum. The inscription on the display says 'Alas! Poor Jacob. Enlisted at Quebec 1830. Came to England with the 2nd Battalion. Had one good conduct ring. Died on detachment at Croydon 1846.'
