The foliated VR cypher of Queen Victoria was embroidered, together with the guelphic crown, on the fore part of the 9th Lancers shabraque, on both sides, appearing in front of the saddle. This complied with 1861 Dress Regulations, but Queen Adelaide’s reversed cypher was still emblazoned on lance caps and buttons.
