The earliest known regimental badge of the 9th Dragoons was displayed on the shabraque of the Private 1751 painted by David Morier. The regiment converted to light dragoons in 1783 and this buff-coloured shabraque was part of the horse furniture of an officer of the 9th Light Dragoons. The badge is repeated four times, on the holster caps and the rear parts. Two flags crossed with two swords and two lances with a halberd in the middle and a central device that has a shiny silver centre. The flags are indistinct but the monochrome detail below shows that the pale flag has IX D although part of the embroidery is missing.
