Sir Douglas Winchester Scott 2nd Bt


Douglas Winchester Scott was born on 4 Feb 1907. His father was Rear Admiral Sir Percy Moreton Scott 1st Bt and his mother was Teresa Roma Dixon-Hartland. His parents divorced when he was 4 years old. He was educated at Harrow. His father died in 1924 and he inherited the baronetcy at the age of 17.

After Sandhurst he entered the 3rd Hussars, and in 1940 was a captain, appointed staff officer in the 1st Armoured Division. He returned to his regiment with the appointment of Commanding Officer in 1944. After the war he transferred to the 9th Lancers as CO in February 1948. He retired with the rank of lieutenant-colonel and was appointed Colonel of the 3rd Hussars on 1 May 1955. In 1962 the regiment amalgamated with the 7th Hussars and Sir Douglas was Colonel of the newly formed Queen’s Own Hussars.

He was married in 1933 to Elizabeth Joyce Glanley and had three children, Diana Jean Scott, Sir Anthony Percy Scott 3rd Bt, and Alastair John Douglas Scott. He died 10 April 1984 at Chichester, Sussex. The photo shows him as a lieutenant in the service dress uniform of the 3rd Hussars c1930.
