The 9th Light Dragoons underwent a radical change of uniform in 1812,The blue uniform with silver lace and braid was changed to a blue unlaced uniform with crimson facings and gold epaulettes and belts. The sabretache remained blue but was embroidered and laced with gold, as seen in the 1813 print by Hamilton Smith. The crown has coloured embroidery and red cushions. In the centre is the reverse G R cypher which is more likely to be George IV, thus dating this after 1820 (the cypher for the Regency period was usually G P). The battle honour PENINSULA was emblazoned on sabretaches and shabraques after the award on 6 April 1815. The gold lace around the edge is Herringbone pattern with a vellum central stripe. The regiment was converted to Lancers in 1816, retaining a similar pattern sabretache, although the Dighton painting of 1817 shows a dress sabretache without the battle honour.
