The monogram of Queen Adelaide, Consort of King William IV. In 1830 the regiment was quartered in Hounslow and Hampton Court, required to escort King William in the first weeks of his reign. After an inspection at Hyde Park on 22 July 1830 the King conferred on the regiment the title 9th Queen’s Royal (Light) Dragoons (Lancers). Adelaide’s monogram A R reversed became the badge of the 9th Lancers until their amalgamation with the 12th Lancers in 1960. This example is from an officer’s pouch post-1902.
