Charles Morland was born in Westmorland on 20 November 1773. He was the son of Thomas Morland and Anne Matson. He joined the army as a cornet in the 12th Light Dragoons and later transferred to the 9th. He was a lieutenant-colonel on 4 March 1813 and appointed Commanding Officer of the 9th Lancers in 1821. He was ADC to King George IV. In 1812 he married Hon Caroline Eustatia Courtenay, daughter of William Courtenay, 2nd Viscount Courtenay of Powderham Castle. They had three children, William Courtenay Morland in 1818, Caroline Anne Morland, and Isaac Morland. Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Morland died on 14 June 1828.
