British Empire Title

9th Lancers

Budli-ki-Serai

The 9th Lancers go into the attack on the rebels at Budli-ki-Serai. The mutineers formed a line of battle which the cavalry attacked on the flank. A gun team can be seen moving away in the middle distance which the artist may have intended to be the gun team captured by Lieutenant Jones. The officers and men all wear white summer uniforms with red piping. The forage hats covered in white pagris with a neck curtain are shown as having peaks, but this is an error on the part of Orlando Norie, the artist. Two of the men have fallen, the rest ride on, carrying lances without pennons. Officers use swords, one of which rides a grey horse in the centre of the picture.
