9th Lancers

Drum Horse, India 1929

The 9th Lancers were stationed at Secunderabad in 1926 and in 1929 moved to Sialkot. They paraded with lances for the last time in October 1931 and two weeks later returned to Britain. This photo was taken at Sialkot and shows the skewbald drum horse ‘Music-Box’. The bridle has been embellished since 1913, with a new badge between the horse’s eyes. The rest of the kit originating in 1913 is worn, apart from the scarlet drum banners. The silver drums had not had the battle honours from World War One added at this stage.
