The drum horse in this photo is either a skewbald or piebald, photographed in Rawalpindi in 1904. The cream-coloured horse, Queen Adelaide, had been left in England at the depot in Kent, or had been pensioned off. The banner and shabraque are the same as in the 1896 photo. The drummer is named as Private H T Arnold who joined the regiment as a percussionist in the band at the age of 14. He was promoted to corporal in 1910. The 9th Lancers were in India from 1902 to 1906. Private Arnold has a black and white plume on his lance cap, not red as worn by the drummer pictured in 1896.
