This drawing from a tailor’s book shows the badge worn on officers’ sabretaches after 1830. In that year King William III ordered that the 9th Lancers be renamed the 9th Queen’s Royal Lancers after the Queen Consort, Queen Adelaide. The GR cypher was replaced by an AR cypher. The battle honour PENINSULA remained at the base of the design but the wreath around the garter was changed from a Union wreath of roses, thistles and shamrocks, to a wreath of laurel on the left side and oak leaves on the right.
