9th Lancers

Advance to Kabul

The journey undertaken by the 9th Lancers through the mountains of Afghanistan was long and hard and, in parts, fraught with danger from sniping tribesmen. This painting by Orlando Norie gives an idea of the spectacle of a long military train, but it was not only British and Indian cavalry snaking through the passes, but foot soldiers and hundreds of pack animals and artillery.
