9th Lancers

Lance Corporal, Undress c1911

The lance corporal wears an undress blue frock at a sports event. The collar has badges on each side and a gilding metal IXL on each shoulder strap. His gold lace rank stripe has a silver regimental NCOs arm badge above. He wears the recently issued coloured forage cap which is blue with scarlet cap band and scarlet quarter welts. A metal regimental badge is on the front. Despite the fact that pouch-belts were discontinued in the line cavalry in 1902, he wears one on this occasion. The tight-fitting overalls have double yellow stripes down the side, and he has ankle boots and spurs. The photo is taken from Cavalry Warrant Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers Arm Badges by D Linaker and G Dine (MHS 1997).
