This lance cap is in bad condition but reveals the stitching that joins the upper and lower half of the cap. It was sold at auction by Dix Noonan Webb on 14 Dec 2011 for 210 pounds. The brass waist-band is partly missing and the chin-chain and lion's head attachments also missing. But the black and white horsehair plume is intact, with the brass plume holder and boss. The upper part of the cap is ribbed blue cloth with brass strips on the angles and foliated corners to the black leather square top. The peak is plain black leather, not gilt-edged like the officers’ caps. The front plate is brass, showing the Royal Arms linked with Adelaide’s German arms and 16 battle honours. Queen Adelaide’s monogram is also in brass, not silver as on the officers’ caps.
