British Empire Title

9th Lancers

Quilted Jacket, Afghanistan 1880

The National Army Museum has this quilted jacket in its collection. The photo of sergeants in Kabul in 1880 confirms that the 9th Lancers were issued with such a jacket to protect them from the cold nights and high altitude temperatures. The red edging certainly appears to be evidence that this is a 9th Lancers item of uniform. The white uniform worn by them in India in 1857-58 also had red edging.
