Officers wore the blue stable jacket with red collar and cuffs for mess dinners and social occasions. It was worn open, but loosely fastened at the neck with a gold braid loop. Underneath the jacket, a red waistcoat fastened with hooks and eyes. Both garments were edged with gold lace and gilt studs closely placed down the front. The jacket has slim gold cord shoulder straps, and on the back seams a red welt which also followed the seams at the back of the sleeves. This was worn with dress trousers that had a double gold lace stripe down the side. His medals are in miniature for evening wear. There were no rank badges except for majors and lieutenant-colonels who had embroidered badges on the collar. These field officers also had wider gold lace around the edges.
