Officers wore this lance cap for field exercises and in foul weather on the march. It is made of lightweight material covered with black patent leather. The bulbous dummy rosette on the left front side imitated the gilt metal rosette on the dress cap. The chin chain is in a bad condition but was similar to the one on the dress cap, as were the lion’s head bosses on the sides. The interior had a red silk lining and a buff leather sweat-band.
