The jacket is scarlet with blue facings and gold lace. The blue of the collar is the same width as the gold lace but the blue cuff is almost completely covered by the lace. The slash flap on the cuff is scarlet, edged in narrow gold lace and has five closely placed small buttons in imitation of the dress jacket.
Subalterns and captains wore this jacket with one-inch gold lace around the edges but majors and above had lace one and half inches wide. The front is decorated all the way down from the collar with gilt studs, but the jacket was fastened with hidden hooks and eyes. There are twisted gold cords on each shoulder with a small gilt regimental button. Previous patterns of stable jacket worn in the 1820s had piping of the (crimson) facing colour on the back seams and sleeves, but this jacket shows no sign of blue piping on the seams.
