The heavily braided blue jacket evolved from the earlier pattern, as depicted in the painting by Robert Dighton Jr. The silver braid is close together and curves up at the top, terminating at the shoulders. The three rows of silver buttons are engraved with the word LIGHT above, DRAGOONS below, and IX in the centre. The silver braid on the buff collar and cuffs is carefully sewn, in a more elaborate design than on the earlier pattern. Braiding can also be seen under the arms and would be decorating the back seams, ending in trefoils. The information accompanying this and other items of uniform, says that it was owned by Captain Oakes-Jones.
