This detail, from a panoramic painting of cavalry officers by Robert Dighton Junior, in the Royal Collection, shows an officer of the 9th Light Dragoons around 1807. He wears a frogged waist-length blue jacket with a high buff collar edged in silver braid. The frogging is silver and covers the front of his chest. The style of dress at the time was more dandyfied so the neck was well covered by a black stock or cravat. Most of the other officers in the painting have pale buff breeches but this officer has dark blue breeches. The headdress is a mirleton, inspired by the French and German cavalry at the time. His undress sabretache is plain black leather, suspended from his waist-belt.
