British Empire Title

9th Lancers

Officer 1751

This portrait does not purport to be the 9th Dragoons but is titled Officer of Dragoons. This is confirmed by the coat’s lack of lapels. The buff facings and silver lace certainly point to the 9th Dragoons. The buff waistcoat is decorated with silver in a similar way to the coat, but the buttons are smaller. The photo from which this comes (black and white) actually shows more of a light between the double rows of silver lace, especially on the collar. The right shoulder shows a glimpse of the aiguillette but no shoulder cords. His crimson sash is worn on the left shoulder. The tricorn hat is laced with silver, and has a black silk cockade held on by a silver button and double cord.
