This coloured plate from the Cloathing Book of 1742 is the first depiction of the uniform of Wynn’s Dragoons which a few years later was numbered 9th. As the regiment was not classed as Royal until 1831 the facings were not blue at this stage. This print shows the facings as buff, on the collar, cuffs and coat turnbacks. The coat has no lapels and is decorated with white button loops and white metal buttons. There is a white aiguillette hanging from a white shoulder cord on his right shoulder. He has a buff waistcoat and breeches.
The shabraque and the inner lining of the rolled cloak are also buff. The shabraque is embroidered with a trophy of arms on both sides of the rear part, and the holster covers. He has a musket, with ammunition kept in the buff leather pouch on a broad shoulder belt. He is also armed with a sword and bayonet held in a frog attached to a waist-belt worn under the coat.
