This fine example of a British officer’s sabretache belonged to Lieutenant-Colonel Robert Augustus Master, the last commanding officer of the 7th Bengal Light Cavalry. The dark blue face of the item is decorated with silver embroidery and surrounded by a silver herringbone train lace. A small laurel wreath is at the top with BLC below and the single battle honour of the regiment PUNJAUB in a scroll at the base, decorated with laurel. This battle honour was conferred on the regiments of the BLC on 7 Oct 1853 so the sabretache dates after that. Colonel Masters was appointed to the command in October 1855, having commanded the 11th Irregular Cavalry since 1847.
