This detail is taken from a portrait of an officer of the 6th Bengal Native Cavalry c1815. The shako officially replaced the helmet for the British officers of the regiment at around this time. The badge was silver with a gilt centre. The numeral 6 was within an inscribed circle. Images of the plate, or badge, worn on the shako at this time are rare. The star shaped device was worn until the middle of the 1830s when it was replaced by the Maltese cross plate.
