British Empire Title

6th Bengal Light Cavalry

Sabretache c1830

This drawing by W Y Carman was made from an actual example at RMA Sandhurst and published in his book, Indian Army Uniforms: Cavalry (Leonard Hill 1961). It was worn by a British officer, dark blue with silver lace and embroidery. The battle honour for LASWAREE was awarded on 23 Feb 1829, for SEETABULDEE on 27 Feb 1819 and for BHURTPORE on 30 May 1826. The next battle honours were granted to the regiment in 1853, after the 2nd Sikh War. So the sabretache dates some time after 1829.
