This silver jug was presented to the 14th Light Dragoons by the men of the 5th Bengal Light Cavalry after the battle of Ramnuggur. Thackwell’s account of the battle says that Lord Gough, after the battle, presented a donation of 5,000 rupees to the privates of the 5th BLC, but they ‘magnanimously determined to give it to the 14th Dragoons, in token of their admiration of the superhuman courage displayed by the latter.’ They weren’t permitted to do this so they tried to organise a party with them to celebrate, but this was also not allowed, so they presented the 14th, heroes of Ramnuggur, with a piece of silver plate.
