British Empire Title

5th Bengal Light Cavalry

Bengal Cavalry Charging

This is a detail from one of several drawings by Captain William Ludlow of Bengal troops, dated 1835. He was an officer in the 12th Bengal Native Infantry. The three layers show Infantry at the top, artillery in the middle and Light Cavalry below. The colouring of the cavalry is incorrect as the men are shown in red jackets, but it shows how the regiment maintained their formation of two ranks as the trumpeter sounds the charge. The 5th BLC would have worn pale blue jackets with black collars and cuffs.
