These composite photos of the same exhibit were taken at the National Army Museum, Chelsea in the 1980s. The uniform belonged to James Caulfeild who served in the 5th Bengal Light Cavalry up to the rank of lieutenant-colonel, and was appointed CO of the 4th BLC from 1829 to 1833. He was also Colonel of the 10th BLC from 1841 until 1852. The jacket probably dates from 1829 (the 5th BLC had black facings, so at least the collar and cuffs would have had to be altered to red/orange). Due to the amount of work involved in a jacket like this, it would probably have been worn throughout his career in the Bengal Cavalry. The back view shows that the braiding on the back seams is less elaborate than that of the 1st BLC. The right-hand picture reveals that the sabretache is that of the 4th BLC. The barrel-sash replaced the gold-laced girdle c1840.
