This photo was taken in 1927 when Subadar-Major Sant Singh was in London as an appointed King’s Indian Orderly Officer. In 1922 the 32nd Sikh Pioneers became the 2nd Battalion 3rd Sikh Pioneers. He enlisted on 15 July 1901 and became an officer, with the rank of Jemadar on 30 Nov 1914, promoted to Subadar on 4 Oct 1916. The rank of Subadar-Major was reached on 16 Sep 1926. He wears the Indian Order of Merit which is a silver star, awarded for gallantry in Mesopotamia, on 1 Aug 1920. The silver badge he wears on the front of his red turban is the badge of the former 32nd Sikh Pioneers.
