This view of the kurta, worn by Indian and British officers, allows a study of the special pattern of braid on the sleeves. The gold braid above the pointed gold-laced cuffs forms two Bengal knots bordered by circlets. This extends the pattern as far as, or beyond the elbow, so that when gauntlets are worn, the braid can still be seen. The gold lace is quilted and frames the pale blue cuffs. The circles of braid also border the gold lace that frames the buttoned front of the kurta, and continue up around the base of the collar. The steel shoulder chains are removable and are bordered by gold braid that forms trefoils at the points. The collar is covered by gold lace and edged with braid. The pouch-belt is incorrect on this specimen but the waist belt is Victorian; gold lace with a central pale blue stripe, and having waist-belt clasp with a Queen’s crown above a number 2 surrounded by a wreath.
