In 1886 the uniform was changed from green with red facings, to blue with pale blue facings. This group photo shows Indian officers of the 2nd Bengal Cavalry posing for the camera with British and Indian officers of another cavalry regiment, possibly the 16th. The uniforms worn by the 2nd are distinguished by the vertical rows of gold lace on each side of the buttons down the front of their blue kurtas. Photos taken later of this uniform show gold braid formed in circles bordering the vertical lace, and around the shoulder chains. This is evidence that the photo was taken in the early 1890s.
They have gold lace on their collars but the cuffs are hidden by white gauntlets. The pouch-belts and waist-belts are gold laced and have a central silk stripe of pale blue. They have red embroidered kummerbunds under their waist-belts. The pouch-belts have silver chains and pickers. Most of them wear the two medals for the Egypt campaign of 1882. Their pagris are made up of blue and gold stripes, and they wear white, or pale buff jodhpurs with black puttees and ankle boots.
One of the most prominent officers of the 2nd BL, Risaldar-Major Ali Muhammed Khan, is seated near the middle between two British officers.
