George Arnold was the son of the famous American turncoat Benedict Arnold (1741 - 1801). He was born in Philadelphia on 5 Sep 1787 to Benedict Arnold’s second wife, Peggy Shippen, the middle child of five children. Out of the two marriages there were 8 children, one daughter and seven boys, all of whom became officers in the British army. George was also married twice, firstly to Ann Martinez Brown, and secondly to Settural Kahnom. He was promoted to lieutenant-colonel and died of disease in 1828 in Dinajpur, India. The portrait shows him in the dress uniform of the 2nd Bengal Light Cavalry c1820.
