The remains of the King’s and Regimental Colours of the 2nd Battalion are illustrated here, giving us only a rough idea of how they would have looked in their original state. The caption says that they were carried in the Crimean War of 1854-55 and the China War of 1860. At the time of this print they were kept in St Giles Church, Edinburgh. The centres of the two Colours cannot be seen clearly but they most likely had the St Andrew circle with VR cypher, surrounded by the collar of the Order of the Thistle. The regimental title shows only the words THE ROYAL. The Queen’s Colour conforms to the 1844 regulation in not having battle honours. The lower part of the blue Regimental Colour is missing so there is no sign of the thistles, crowns and mottos in the three corners.
