This badge was worn on the black leather sabretaches carried by the mounted officers of the battalion, restricted to the CO, the second-in-command and the Adjutant. The photo is from the Bosley auction catalogue of December 2003. The information says that the central figure is on translucent blue enamel but does not say if this badge was for the 1st Battalion only.
