Officer’s Forage Cap Badge 1872

The undress forage cap at this stage still retained the same shape as before, with the horizontal peak. The badge shown here, worn from 1872 to 1881 was smaller than the 1861 version and the star differs in that it is of gilt and silver. The central figure of St Andrew is surrounded by the collar of the Order and the motto. Below this the regimental title is THE ROYAL SCOTS which had been officially restored to the regiment in 1871. St Andrew and the collar are on green enamel indicating that this is the badge of the 2nd Battalion. The 1st Battalion had a blue enamel base.
