Officer’s Shako Plate 1869

The 1869 infantry shako had this shape of plate, formed into a laurel wreath surrounding the central device. Most line regiments had the Garter with the regimental number stencilled in the middle which was not popular. The 1st regiment were distinguished in having a more elaborate design. The collar and pendant of the Order of the Thistle with the VR cypher in the centre, and a foliated 1 beneath. The title ROYAL REGIMENT was on a scroll at the top, beneath the Victorian crown. The plate is 3 inches wide and 3.25 inches deep.
