The Royal Regiment was distinguished in that it consisted of two battalions since c1661. This badge was worn on the Albert shako by officers of the 2nd Battalion from 1845. It is the first appearance of the Scottish motto NEMO ME IMPUNE LACESSIT on a regimental badge. A similar photo of this badge was published in a Bosley auction catalogue of Dec 2003 which recommends ‘Badges of the Highland and Lowland Regiments’ by WH & KD Bloomer.
