This Illustration from Parkyn's book is similar to the 1816 example but has the title ‘The Royal Regt’ instead of ‘The Royal Scots’. The circle is surrounded by a plaited cord design. The Royal Scots title was used from 1812 to 1821 and then not until 1871 when it was revived. The battle honours for NIAGARA, PENINSULA and WATERLOO prove that this plate is post-1815, but could not be post-1821 because of the George III cypher. It is therefore safe to assume that both regimental titles could be interchanged. This belt plate may have been used by a different battalion as the Royal Regiment had four battalions at that time, the 3rd and 4th being raised in 1804 and disbanded in 1815.
