This enlargement of a print of the 1st Regiment in the British Military Library series of 1799 clearly shows an oval silver plate with a Hanoverian crown over a garter with a thistle in the middle. Parkyn refers to this as a gilt plate and adds that it was worn until 1815, but this is probably incorrect.
