The dress coat for officers of the Royal Regiment retained the elaborate embroidery on the collar and cuffs, but an economy measure eliminated the decorative false pocket flaps on the back skirts in 1848. This applied to all infantry regiments. The regiment still had the expensive embroidered thistles at the base of the tails. The shoulder wings are also very elaborate and have flaming grenade badges in silver wire embroidery sewn on top. These wings can be seen in the detail below.
