The 2nd Battalion served in India from 1806 to 1832 having fought in the Mahratta Wars of 1816-18, gaining the battle honours of Nagpore and Maheidpore, and toiled through the First Burma War. This illustration by Pierre Turner shows how the uniform adapted to active service in the Indian subcontinent. It is based on sketches made while the regiment was in Madras in 1825. The officer has a waist length shell jacket that did not become regulation until 1829. The forage cap has gold lace and was of regimental pattern. He has loose trousers without the usual stripe down the side, and a sword, normally slung from a white leather shoulder-belt.
