Ackermann produced this print, drawn by Henry Martens, on 32 April 1846 showing the dress uniform worn by a British officer with other ranks in the background. The uniform was based on the pre-1855 uniform worn by British lancer regiments that had served in India at various times. The tall lance cap was uncomfortable and unsuitable for the Indian climate, but would only have been worn for ceremonial occasions.
