George Buist


Lieutenant George Buist was killed in action at Jellalabad on 29 July 1842. He was born in Falkland co. Fife on 2 Aug 1807. His father was Rev George Buist, vice-rector at St Andrews University, his mother was Margaret Fermie. He joined the 10th BLC in Feb 1829 and was promoted to lieutenant on 17 Feb 1836. He served in General Pollock’s Army of Retribution in Afghanistan. George was married to Isabella Jane Masson at St Andrew’s Church, Calcutta, on 20 Aug 1829.
