The British Empire and its effect on Plymouth

View of Mount Batten and Entrance to Cattewater

This 1861 painting by Henry Andrews Luscombe shows the commercial side of Plymouth to the east of the Hoe as opposed to the Royal Naval side of the Plymouth that lies to the west. It also shows that even with the breakwater, the seas could still get very choppy indeed.
